Newcastle boss ‘uncomfortable’ watching Owen

Glenn Roeder has admitted it is difficult for him to watch Michael Owen in action for England after his metatarsal injury – but believes the striker would not play if he was not at 100%

Owen is set to lead England’s World Cup challenge despite playing just 30 minutes of football for Newcastle United in 2006.

"Michael would not let England rely too heavily on him if he didn't feel right," said Roeder. "He is the most mature player I have ever come across,” said Roeder.

"He is very sensible and he would not put himself at risk. If he did not feel he could get through a game he would not take that risk.

"When he plays he is 100 per cent sure he is right. I will keep in touch with Michael over the next few weeks. If I send him a text to see how he is, he is the type of person who gets straight back to you to tell you. He is an excellent professional and one of the best.

"It's uncomfortable for myself and for Newcastle fans to watch him when he is just coming back from injury, but I'm sure all of those fans, like myself, will want to see Michael play well and help England win the World Cup."

supremo unhappy with England over Owen scan

Freddy Shepherd has hit out after claiming Newcastle United were not informed about an injury scare for striker Michael Owen.

Owen has made only one substitute's appearance for Newcastle since the turn of the year after a metatarsal injury but is set to spearhead England's World Cup bid in Germany next month.

He had a scan on Monday to check out a potential thigh injury and Shepherd said: "I am disappointed that no-one within the England camp informed us.

"We have co-operated all the way along with England to help Michael and that is why this is disappointing."

He added on the Newcastle website: "To be the last to know, via the media, is certainly disappointing.

"Especially after we have kept the England camp informed all the way about Michael's fitness since he first injured his foot and we have done all we can to get Michael fit to play a big part at the World Cup.

"We will be making our feelings known and seeking an explanation from the England team management, plus reassurances that this doesn't happen again."

Newcastle United chairman: Owen stays

Freddy Shepherd insists Michael Owen is staying at Newcastle United Football Club.

Almost ever since the England international striker became a Magpie last summer when he moved from Real Madrid, he has been linked with a transfer away from the north east.

Former club Liverpool have constantly been linked with Owen, yet Shepherd insists his star striker will be staying at St James’ Park certainly for the foreseeable future.

"We paid a club record fee for him and he was brought here as a long-term investment to score goals," said Shepherd. "It was a disappointing season for him but that was down to a bad injury.

“He's proved in the games that he's played that he will get us goals, so I'm not writing Michael Owen off - he's a huge part of this Newcastle United team.

"He was bought to play alongside Alan Shearer and eventually replace Alan. Let's make no bones about that. We didn't pay that kind of money to bring in a bit-part player. Michael has spent a large part of the season out injured but he'll certainly be playing a big part in Newcastle's future."

Newcastle United eager to find ‘new Shearer’

Newcastle United Football Club boss Glenn Roeder is confident he will find a replacement for Alan Shearer – eventually.

Shearer hung up his boots at St James’ Park after ten successful seasons with the club, leaving new manager Roeder searching for a 20-goals-a-season striker.

And whilst he admits it is certainly a difficult task, he is confident he can find his man eventually.

"Alex Ferguson has said that he has been looking for another Alan Shearer for ten years, but the scouts can't find him," said Roeder. "But there are goalscorers out there.

"We will do it. We will find a striker good enough, confident enough and special enough to wear the number nine shirt. It's a special shirt. It's tradition. It's important that we find the right striker.

"We have to find a player who can average 20 goals a season in The Premiership. Nothing is impossible. There is someone out there and we have to identify the one who will be happy, who will want to wear the number nine.

"I know the pressure that goes with that. He has to be able to carry it off."

Newcastle United star linked with Hearts

Newcastle United Football Club midfielder Lee Bowyer has been linked with a move to Scotland, although his agent has denied the speculation.

The 29-year-old is a reported target for UEFA Champions League qualifiers Hearts, yet David Geiss has rejected these claims and insists he has no knowledge of the interest.

"I don't know where that's come from," the agent told The Scotsman.

"Lee's future will depend on who goes in as manager at Newcastle United and what they think of him. I haven't heard a thing from Hearts."

England Premiere League

This Sunday one of the most prestigious Leagues in the world comes to an end, which is the English Premier League. It’s been a fierce competition all season long, especially between Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United fighting for the first three places. Even though Chelsea is already the champion with one fixture left, the fight for second place is fierce between Manchester and Liverpool for a chance to get into next year edition of the champions league.

A team that should’ve figure among the first places and didn’t was the Arsenal with an impressive campaign in the Champions League they couldn’t do the same in the Premier League 25 points behind first place Chelsea unless they win the Champion League Final they will not enter next years edition due to their current position in the Premier League.

The situation with Arsenal in the Premier League has left the fans and the team very disappointed because everybody had great expectations. Although they couldn’t play as well as everybody expected in the Premier League, they still have the comfort of being in the final of the Champions League.

Let’s talk about the new Champion Chelsea; they didn’t have a good campaign in the Champions League like their counterpart Arsenal. Still they managed to get the title in England without any major dispute towards the end of the season. They have a great team that maybe doesn’t have so many stars like other teams, but they managed to get the formula needed to have a balanced team both in offense and defense. This has allowed them to be at the top of the table most of the season.

After the defeat against Blackburn Rovers, three days after winning the Championship, Chelsea coach Mourinho admitted, he wouldn’t have been quite so philosophical over the outcome had the lost points been of greater consequence. “I am laughing now because I am champion, but if today I was not champion, I think it would be the end of my career in England because I would be suspended forever!” he said, painting a picture of how he would have reacted.

If you like sports betting don’t miss the chance to bet on this weekend’s final game for it will be the last match day of the season and will be a long time before we have English soccer again.

Emre looking for Newcastle United exit

Emre could be about to leave Newcastle United Football Club.

Although the Magpies will be reluctant to lose the classy midfielder just ten months after signing him from Inter Milan for £4million, his agent has revealed talks with two Italian clubs are taking place.

"I hope with my help he can return to Italy," Ahmet Bulut is quoted in the Sunday Sun. "But it won't be easy because Newcastle don't seem intent on selling him. We are in contact with two Italian clubs I cannot name. But first we must find agreement with Newcastle."

It is believed both AC Milan and Palermo are interested in Emre, who has impressed the St James’ Park faithful despite injuries interrupting his debut season at the club.
